Alzheimer's in Chines

In their recent study on the association between the chromosome 12p13 locus with sudden late-onset Alzheimer’s disease in Chinese, Li, Chu, Li, Yik and Song revealed that through testing over 256 people with Alzheimer’s and 264 control cases, they could identify the specific locus responsible for sporadic late onset Alzheimer in Chinese people. The research involved examining what is known as SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms). Li and colleagues examined 14 SNPs and single marker association revealed that two SNPs in NCAPD2 showed statistically significant values. Based on this finding, Li and colleagues concluded that these genetic evidence suggest that the chromosome 12p13 locus is associated with Alzheimer occurrences in Chinese people.

As Li and colleagues determined the associations between Alzheimer onset with chromosomal locus in Chinese people, they did not reach any conclusions about other races. The researchers predict that it would be useful to not only identify the associations that may lead to Alzheimer’s in all humans but also to hopefully find a “cure” for Alzheimer’s from using the information gathered by these researches.
