Geneticists have now found the gene that causes Congenital general hypertrichosis (CGH). This genetic disorder causes among other things bearded lady syndrome. Along with bearded lady syndrome this gene group also causes enlarged gums and distorted facial features. The features of CGH can show all at once or individually. To map these genes the researchers from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College in Beijing studied the genomes of 3 Chinese families where the CGH was both present and absent. It was discovered that the gene for CGH is found on the 17th chromosome.
